The Ullambana Sutra describes how Maudgalyayana went to the Buddha to ask how he could help his mother, and the Buddha replied that her situation required the energy and care of the entire Sangha. By working together, her suffering was relieved.
Seeing the good result of their efforts, Maudgalyayana found peace for himself, and the sangha found delight in supporting him and relieving his and his mother’s suffering. This is a powerful reminder of the importance of spiritual community, especially the monastic Sangha, in embodying the Buddha’s teachings and supporting transformation.
Because of this, Vu Lan is also an ideal time to honor our spiritual teachers with gratitude and generosity. Gifts to this Vu Lan fund will directly support the 13 visiting monastics who are joining us from across the Midwest Sangha, including requisites and travel expenses.
Our combined generosity is an expression of gratitude for the gift of the Dharma and of care for the shared community we have with temples throughout the midwest. Thank you for being part of Dinh Quang Temple and our practice to make a living home for the Dharma in southwest Missouri!
You can offer donations at the temple, online through Zeffy, or by using the form below. Thank you!
