Why donate to Dinh Quang Buddhist Temple?
When our teacher recently returned from India, he joyfully shared about visiting Bakraur village near Bodh Gaya. Tradition remembers this as Sujata’s village, and a stupa there was dedicated over two thousand years ago in her honor. That simple, small gift of milk-rice set into motion an unbroken chain of generosity that extends all the way to us: householders sharing requisites; monastics sharing the Dharma; and all of us sharing this path together that leads to the end of every kind of suffering.
Our community of monastics and householders live in a joyful and mutual interdependence. Monastics embody and teach the Dharma, which is considered the greatest gift, beyond price and offered freely. In turn, the lay community responds with gratitude, practicing the Dharma and happily supporting the monastic sangha. One of the 10 Recollections for monastics is, “My very life is sustained by the gifts of others.”
Donation boxes are one reminder of the mutual generosity, gratitude, respect, and care that we share in our practice. Giving, whether of time, effort, goods, or money, joins together our awareness of impermanence with 1) the practices of letting go (literally in giving a gift, and spiritually in working with attachment) and 2) cultivating goodwill. We also cultivate the insight of interbeing, understanding that maintaining our temple is the work and the gift of the entire community. We extend this awareness and commitment to our social programs and daily lives.
Your tax deductible donations go directly towards the immediate needs of the temple which include supporting temple ministries and activities; paying mortgage, utilities, and maintenance; providing requisites for our monastics. Dinh Quang Buddhist Temple is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization.
There are many merits involved in donating to the Sangha. If you wish, you can also dedicate your donation to your loved ones, city, country or all sentient beings.
